Floating Reed Bed An investigation into floating reed beds ability to treat municipal wastewater. This trial is taking place in a sludge lagoon and is testing the removal capacity of floating reed beds for BOD, suspended solids and ammonia, also to establish their capability to remove heavy metals and phosphorus.
Phosphorus Removal
Due to ever tightening nutrient discharge consent limits, an investigation into phosphorus removal using reed bed technologies is taking place.
Factors Affecting Reed Growth An investigation into the effects of trees and shade on reed growth in constructed wetlands
Tidal Flow Reed Beds ARM began trials of Tidal Flow reed beds in 1991 for the treatment of agricultural wastewaters. These are being utilised now for the investigation of ammonia removal from sewage. Copper Removal from Distillery Wastewater An investigation into the application of reed bed technology in the removal of soluble copper from distillery wastewater. Reed Bed Longevity ARM have several projects investigating factors effecting the longevity of reed beds. Drinking Water Sludge Treatment ARM are investigating reed bed capabilities to treat drinking water sludges. Primary Reed Beds ARM set up the Primary Reed Bed at the Rydal Estate in Rugeley in 2004, to investigate primary treatment of domestic wastewater. This is an ongoing trial. Temperature and Ammonia Removal ARM have set up some trials at Rugeley to determine temperatures effect on ammonia removal. |
